The video also includes a lengthy commentary by Whiting's mentor, Allen Otte, who performs his own work for speaker/percussionist created around works of John Cage. I found this to be a totally non-musical experience, and could not listen to all of it, nor do I care to. Reply

Not to be confused with the jazz label from the 50s Mode Records. Founded in , owned by Brian Brandt, Mode Records is a label for jazz and new classical - especially Cage, Xenakis, and Feldman. Some of the early numbers on Mode were not actually released by them, but were numbers set aside for releases they distributed in the U.S. Reply

Jul 10,  · For an album with such a focused concept, John Cage: Music for Speaking Percussion offers an admirable range of musical experiences. Mode Records is making it available both in conventional audio formats and as a Blu-ray Disc, with the latter featuring a video interview with Whiting and Otte and HD footage of all the works in performance, thus conveying the theatricality that’s so . John Cage allowed for some of his works to be combined and performed simultaneously. Percussionist Bonnie Whiting has created uniquely virtuosic solo-simultaneous realizations of some of these works for "speaking percussionist." 51'" for a speaking percussionist is Whiting's solo-simultaneous realization of all. As in the larger works, Whiting gives a tour de force performance of both parts simultaneously. As a bonus, Whiting's mentor Allen Otte performs his work for speaking pianist/percussionist which is created around works of Cage and utlizing Cage's compositional ""tools"" for both the music and text.5/5(1).
